Overview

The Pulmonary Embolism Case Conference is a quarterly, Regularly Scheduled Series (RSS) designed as a structured, multidisciplinary forum for the review of complex and high-acuity pulmonary embolism (PE) cases. Each session centers on a case presentation, including a radiology-led review of diagnostic imaging, followed by a focused discussion of a relevant PE topic and a review of the supporting literature. Through collaborative case analysis, participants evaluate clinical decision-making, procedural outcomes, pharmacologic management, and system performance across the continuum of PE care. This series is intended to promote evidence-based, team-based learning and to identify opportunities to improve diagnosis, risk stratification, treatment selection, coordination of care, and patient outcomes in pulmonary embolism management.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Assess the clinical presentation, risk stratification, and diagnostic findings in patients with complex or high-acuity pulmonary embolism.
  2. Interpret key radiographic and imaging findings relevant to the diagnosis and management of pulmonary embolism.
  3. Apply current evidence and guideline-based literature to treatment decisions for patients with pulmonary embolism, including anticoagulation, catheter-based therapies, and other advanced interventions.
  4. Discuss the roles of multiple specialties, including pharmacy, in the coordinated management of pulmonary embolism across emergency, inpatient, critical care, and procedural settings.
  5. Evaluate clinical decision-making and procedural outcomes in PE cases to identify opportunities for quality improvement and system-based practice enhancement.
  6. Incorporate multidisciplinary perspectives into individualized treatment planning for patients with pulmonary embolism to improve safety, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
