Overview

The Scripps Structural Heart Intervention and Imaging course provides a practical, state-of-the-art, live case-based review of structural heart disease interventions and cardiovascular imaging, with a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration among interventional cardiologists, echocardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, and sonographers. Designed for clinicians involved in the care of patients with structural heart disease, the course covers current clinical guidelines for patient selection, pre-procedural evaluation, procedural techniques, imaging integration, and management challenges across therapies such as LAA closure, PFO closure, TAVR, TMVR, mitral and tricuspid transcatheter interventions, and emerging heart failure therapies. Through expert-led presentations and live case demonstrations, participants will review the use of multimodality imaging, including TTE, TEE, ICE, CT, and MRI, to guide assessment, procedural planning, intraprocedural decision-making, complication prevention, and post-procedural evaluation, concluding with outcome assessment and future innovations in the field.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Develop and coordinate a multidisciplinary structural heart team to optimize evaluation, procedural planning, and management of patients with structural heart disease.
  2. Identify the equipment, imaging tools, and procedural technologies required for structural heart interventions, including echocardiography, CT, MRI, and intracardiac imaging.
  3. Apply multimodality imaging to assess cardiac valves, chambers, and septal structures before, during, and after intervention, including use of TTE, TEE, ICE, CT, and MRI.
  4. Define current indications and patient selection criteria for key structural heart therapies, including LAA closure, PFO closure, TAVR, TMVR, and mitral/tricuspid TEER or valve replacement.
  5. Use imaging findings to guide procedural strategy and risk prevention, including evaluation for complications such as peri-device leak, device thrombus, LVOT obstruction, and coronary occlusion.
  6. Implement best practices for procedural, anesthetic, and post-procedural management to improve safety and outcomes in catheter-based structural heart interventions, including emerging therapies for heart failure.

Mitigation of Relevant Financial Relationships

Disclosure of Relevant Financial Relationships and Content Validity

It is policy at Scripps Health’s Office of Continuing Medical Education (CME) for course directors, planners, moderators, faculty, and all others in a position to control content of an educational activity disclose all financial relationships with ineligible companies that they may have had within the past 24 months. This policy is in accordance with the ACCME Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education. An ineligible company is any entity whose primary business is producing, marketing, selling, re-selling, or distributing healthcare products used by or on patients. If an individual refuses to disclose financial relationships, they will be disqualified from being a part of the planning and implementation of the activity. Owners and/or employees of an ineligible company with business lines or products relating to the content of the activity will not be permitted to participate in the planning or execution of any accredited program.

The intent of this policy is to ensure that Scripps Health CME/CE certified activities promote quality and safety, are effective in improving medical practice, consist of valid, evidence-based content, and are independent of control from ineligible companies and free of commercial bias. Peer review of all content was conducted for all faculty presentations whose disclosure information was found to contain any financial relationships. This process consisted of reviewing the content, determining which financial relationships were relevant, and applying appropriate mitigation strategies. All listed relevant financial relationships with ineligible companies for individuals in control of content have been mitigated prior to the commencement of the activity.

The staff in Scripps Health’s Office of Continuing Medical Education have disclosed that they have no financial relationships with any ineligible companies. Any peer reviewer who is determined to have a relevant financial relationship must recuse themselves from the peer review process.
